A lot of people will debate which cars are the best and rarely is there any agreement on this. As example, Car Expert Laurent Van Dessel and I often disagree on choices what cars are better. A big part of the reason for this is that is usually not clear what is meant by the best car. To some people this means that it is a good car. However to a lot of other people the main criteria is that it is an exciting car. Recognizing the difference is important if you are going to debate the subject.
Obviously describing the difference between a good car and exciting car is not going to be an easy task. The best that can be said is that choosing an exciting car is probably more subjective than choosing a good car. In most cases everybody will be able to agree on a good car but when it comes to an exciting car it is largely going to be down to personal taste. Since everybody is going to have different tastes in this regard there will likely be less agreement on an exciting car than there is on a good car.
A good car is just that, it is a car that is well designed and built and performs the way that it should. There is no need for a good car to be exciting, a station wagon can be a good car if it performs the tasks expected of a station wagon well, but nobody would call it an exciting car. In general a good car will be judged by things like reliability, fuel economy, and ease of use. Obviously few of these things are going to be used in choosing a car that is exciting.
An exciting car on the other hand is going to be chosen based on how it makes you feel. This can be based on how it handles or how fast it accelerates. Some people will base their judgement on what the car looks like or even on how it sounds. The main thing is that an exciting car should be one that really affects you emotionally. This is going to be a very personal thing so there will lots of disagreement. While for most people an exciting car will be a sports car this is not a requirement. If you find a family sedan exciting that is up to you.
Just like a good car does not necessarily have to be exciting there is also no requirement that an exciting car actually be good. There are certain cars, usually expensive sports cars that are very exciting but not all that well built. These are the cars that are notorious for always being in the shop. The appeal of these cars is that they are exciting, the fact that they are a bit of a hassle to own usually doesn't discourage people. While these are definitely exciting cars there are few people who would call them good.
