Number four: the Corvette Grand Sport

You had to know that any list of the most exciting cars would include a Corvette. The Corvette has built its reputation on being a car that could really perform. It is always exciting to drive, mainly because it really has more power than grip but this is part of the thrill of driving a Corvette.

Like all Corvettes the main feature of the Grand Sport is power. With a huge 6.2 liter engine that produces four hundred thirty horse power you are not going to be lacking in that regard. However the area where the Grand Sport really shines in comparison to other Corvettes is when it comes to handling. In most cases when you are driving the Corvette you are going to eventually find that you have more power than you can actually handle. This is something that has been addressed by the Grand Sport. In order to do this the wheel base has been widened. The car also uses wider tires than the standard model. This helps to keep the car on the road.

The other outstanding feature of the Grand Sport is that it has better brakes than the standard version. Again this is to help with performance. The Corvette Grand Sport really feels more like a car that is intended for racing compared to the other models which are blindingly fast in a straight line but not so great in the corners. This is not the case here as the car is not only fast when going straight but also at cornering.

While the Grand Sport does offer some performance improvements over the standard model it is actually intended to be a middle of the line car. It bridges the gap between the standard model and the very high performance ZR-1. As a result there are some compromises that had to be made in order to keep the costs down. The result is a car that falls well into the middle of lines price range but offers a significant performance increase over the base model for not a lot more money.

While the Corvette Grand Sport may be an exciting car it is also a practical one, at least as practical as a car can get. It gets surprisingly good fuel economy for a car with an engine as big as it has. This helps to make the Grand Sport a car that you can actually drive for day to day use rather than a car that is limited to weekend cruising. That being said it is a Corvette and it is about performance. In this regard it can more than compete with any car in its price range. It probably can't compete with the very top of the line sports cars but given that it costs a fraction of the price this is hardly a surprise.
